“Take life two steps at a time” is probably the best way to describe my take on life. I joined the Strand Fitness team back in February after arriving back from a three year ex pat stint in Penang, Malaysia, with my husband, Dane and our two boys, aged 11 and 9. I am passionate about teaching and currently instruct in two programs – Les Mills BODYPUMP and my passion ‘RPM’…yes ‘that’ riding class!!

I was recently appointed as Manager of Strand Fitness and whilst you will still see Dean in and around the gym, he will be on the road more, travelling with the Fitness Institute, so please come up and introduce yourself or come along to one of my classes! I like nothing more than walking into a packed RPM room!

I am mere weeks away from competing my Certificate III and IV in Fitness and can’t wait to take on clients soon. I ran my first half marathon in Kuala Lumpur last year, aged 37, in under two hours, returning again this year to do it all again. I would encourage anyone to have a go at least once!

I migrated from desert to the sea in 2008 and found myself in sunny Townsville.

I have been instructing Les Mills and free style classes, boot camps, and torturing clients for the past 12 years.

I am passionate about anything to do with fitness of the mind, body and soul, and in helping others to not only achieve their personal goals but to surpass them, seeing people go beyond their own personal limits and seeing someone changing their lifestyle to be a healthier, happier and a fitter person.

I like to keep strong, well focused and practice what I preach!

Rae Robertson (Senior Personal Trainer)  
My Family has always encouraged an athletic / sporting back ground so my passion for fitness started at 4yrs old playing mini ball and participating in little athletics were I excelled at 200m sprints and hurdles. My Basketball advanced into grade 1 women’s and also the NSW Basketball League were we won our premiership, during this time I was doing numerous school cross country running events and managed to qualify for the state. I have also tried my hand in karate which I loved but sadly had to give that away when we moved to QLD.

I decided to further my passion for fitness and am now a full time Senior Personal Trainer. What can I say! I LOVE MY JOB. As a personal trainer there is nothing more rewarding than watching others achieve their goals and reach their full potential by challenging and surprising them with what they can do! I motivate people everyday but what gives me motivation/passion and enthusiasm is my clients, they push hard, give it all they have and when they think is time to give up they dig in and give it some more!

A lifetime ago, I joined the Army and from my time there, I was constantly exposed to fitness activities and I have learnt that the only thing that holds us back from achieving our fitness goals is lacking the mental toughness to match our physical capability.

I have had some astonishing life experiences having worked in diverse roles and met a lot of amazing people, however I have not had the same level of job satisfaction as what I have obtained from working within the fitness industry and the inspiration that I gain from members, clients and staff.

 I feel privileged to be able to work in such a vibrant and exciting environment and to be able to be a part of so many people's life changing journeys. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey......even if it is just an occasional 'hello' or 'grunt' as we pass.

ABOUT ME: After completing a Bachelor degree in Environmental Science and majoring in Fisheries and Aquaculture, I moved up to Townsville and started a job at the Billabong Sanctuary.

I joined up to Strand Fitness and started taking on the Bootcamps it was then that I found a new passion for exercise and decided on a career change. I thoroughly enjoy group fitness and personal training not just for the exercise but also for the socializing and making new friends.

The thing I love about my job is knowing that the people I see each day at work come in not because they have to, but come because they want to be fit, healthy and look great.
