Contrast Therapy

What is Contrast Therapy?

Contrast Therapy is a powerful recovery technique involving alternating between hot and cold treatments. This method helps enhance muscle recovery, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and boost overall well-being.

At Strand Fitness Southside, we’ve created the ultimate Contrast Therapy experience with our Oasis Fire & Ice area – exclusive to our VIP members.

What it is Hot & Cold Therapy

We offer hot and cold therapy spas as part of our premium recovery options. These specialised spa sessions combine the power of temperature variations to provide a truly transformative experience for your body and mind. By alternating between the two extremes, it triggers a cascade of physiological responses in your body. The heat dilates your blood vessels, improving circulation and promoting relaxation, while the cold constricts the blood vessels, reducing inflammation and refreshing your senses. This contrast can accelerate your recovery, soothe your muscles, and elevate your overall well-being mentally.

The Oasis Fire & Ice Features:

Cold Plunge: 10°C Ice Bath (10 people capacity)

Hot Tub: 38°C Hot plunge (10 people capacity)

Infrared Sauna: 65°C (6 people capacity)

Outdoor Hub Sauna: 90°C (8 people capacity)

Steam Room: 46°C with 100% humidity (12 people capacity)

Magnesium Pool: 29°C – Perfect for cooling down or gentle recovery.

Benefits

We understand the importance of holistic recovery. Our hot and cold spa therapy sessions offer multiple benefits for your body, mind, and overall well-being. Whether you choose the gentle warmth of hot therapy or the invigorating chill of cold therapy, our spas are designed to enhance your recovery, relieve stress, and improve your performance.

How To Use Contrast Therapy Effectively:

1. Start Hot (Sauna or Hot Tub)

Spend 5-15 minutes in a hot environment to relax muscles, increase blood flow, and prepare your body for cold exposure.

2. Cool Down (Cold Plunge or Magnesium Pool)

Submerge in the cold plunge for 1-3 minutes to reduce inflammation, decrease muscle soreness, and invigorate the body.

Alternatively, swim in the magnesium pool for a gentler cooling effect.

3. Repeat Cycles

Repeat the process 2-4 times depending on your experience level and preference.

Finish with either hot or cold, depending on your recovery goals:

End Hot: For relaxation and muscle recovery.

End Cold: For reducing inflammation and boosting alertness.

Benefits of Contrast Therapy

Faster Recovery: Improves muscle recovery by reducing inflammation and promoting blood circulation.

Pain Relief: Helps alleviate muscle soreness and stiffness.

Enhanced Immune System: Boosts your body’s natural healing processes.

Stress Relief: Promotes relaxation and mental clarity.

Better Sleep: Regular use can improve sleep quality and relaxation.

Safety Tips & Recommendations

  • Don’t overdo it. Listen to your body. If you feel lightheaded or uncomfortable, take a break.
  • Beginners should start with shorter exposure times and gradually increase their duration.
  • Hydrate before, during, and after sessions.
  • Avoid contrast therapy if you have cardiovascular issues or other serious medical conditions—consult your doctor first.
  • Always finish with a few minutes of relaxation to allow your body to adjust.
