Run for CORES

4 X 4 X 48 FOR CORES

This 4th – 6th of November, Strand Fitness is proud to sponsor a local Townsville group of friends who are challenging themselves to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours in efforts to raise money for Australian charity CORES. 

The group decided to take part in this run as it would both physically and mentally challenge them, with the motivation to do it for something greater than themselves – the life saving suicide intervention work that CORES provides. CORES stands for Community Response to Eliminate Suicide and was chosen for their work in providing lifesaving suicide prevention/intervention workshops for the community for FREE. They can do this because of donations and support from events like this and from support of local businesses.

The team running includes Elsie Clare, Cassie Selfe, Chris Aulbury, Jake Miles, Luke Lum, Leone Sevudredre and Tegan Menegazzo.

THE GOAL:

Their goal with this run is to generate awareness and start conversations about mental health. They have set a target of $1000 and hope that by talking about the work of CORES and putting ourselves out physically and mentally, it encourages people to look into the work that CORES does and donates to support them. “We want to empower the entire community to be able to identify and help someone who might be suicidal”.

 

HOW PEOPLE CAN HELP THE CAUSE / AND US DURING THE RUN:

We will no doubt be in the hurt locker for many of the runs, if not all 13 of them. If people would like to come down and run a few legs with us, or just be there when we finish any of them, we would absolutely love the support.

THE SCHEDULE:

We will be starting and finishing each run at the rock pools at the Strand.

Our times are as follows:

Friday 04 Nov: 1600, 2000

Saturday 05 Nov: 0000, 0400,0800,1200,1600,2000

Sunday 06 Nov: 0000, 0400, 0800, 1200, 1600

Each run is 6.5km, in total we will be running 85km over the weekend.
